Children's
Problem Behavior
All
behavior, misbehavior included, has as its source a rational
cause. And most often that source or cause can be found
by examining the purpose the misbehavior serves the child.
Because the purpose of the misbehavior is not often recognized
by the parent attempts to correct the misbehavior rarely
include techniques to deal with the cause. As a result discipline
procedures frequently fail.
Generally speaking misbehavior comes from two sources:
1. The child is reacting to people, conditions, events or
situations in his environment.
2. The child is attempting to control people, conditions,
events or situations in his environment.
In his behavioral analysis of the child's problem Doctor
Houle examines the many facets of these two sources and
prescribes a corrective behavioral program unique to that
child's behavior and its underlying sources.
